Frequently Asked Questions

What is a Major Medical Expenses Insurance policy?
  • It is an insurance policy that protects you in case of an accident or illness by covering most hospital, medical, and medication expenses incurred as a result.
  • Yes, the limit is determined by your insured sum. This amount is the maximum that can be covered for an illness or accident, in addition to specific sub-limits for each type of coverage.
  • Deductible: The initial amount you must pay out of pocket for each illness or accident. It applies only once per covered event and is usually set in UMA (Unit of Measure and Update). Once this amount is exceeded, the insurer begins coverage.
  • Co-insurance: The percentage of covered expenses that you must pay after the deductible has been applied. This amount is usually expressed as a percentage and subject to a maximum cap.

Policies may vary depending on the product, but common exclusions include:

  • Pre-existing conditions
  • Companion expenses during hospitalization
  • Cosmetic or elective medical/surgical treatments
  • Vitamin supplements
  • Check-ups not related to a covered condition
  • Dental, alveolar, gingival, or maxillofacial treatments
  • Infertility, sterility, or birth control treatments
  • Conditions resulting from drug or alcohol use
  • And others...

It depends on the coverage you have contracted. In some cases, especially in accidents, you may not be required to pay the deductible or co-insurance.

  • UMA stands for “Unidad de Medida y Actualización” (Unit of Measure and Update), a monetary reference value established by the Mexican government and updated annually. You can check the current value at: https://www.inegi.org.mx/temas/uma/
  • It is a financial instrument that provides a guaranteed sum in case of death, disability, or survival.
  • In group or collective life insurance, the employer contracts the policy as part of the employee benefits package.
  • Yes. The insured has the right to freely designate or change beneficiaries at any time, provided there is no legal restriction. The change must be requested in writing using the life insurance consent form applicable to your policy.

Some of the complementary coverages we may offer include:

  • Funeral assistance
  • Medical assistance (home visits, medical referrals, pharmacy and lab discounts)
  • Ambulance service
  • Legal, nutritional, psychological, and grief counseling
  • Funeral expense coverage

We recommend consulting a specialist to understand the specific conditions of your policy, as they may vary depending on the coverage, insurer, region, etc.
